Thought of the Day
I’ve learned that the best friends are the ones with four legs. I’ve also learned that the pain of losing them is worth the unconditional love & loyalty they gave me every day.
Social Notes
My favorite campground plant has nearly gone by – Donna’s clematis has been in full bloom for the past two weeks, I hope you got a chance to enjoy it. While last weekend was a bit misty and fairly quiet it was a good time nonetheless. Lots of visiting and catching up. The hand decorated koozies made in Arts & Crafts for Dad’s Day were very cute – especially Mary’s. She was the oldest person in class and Carol said she did very well.
All our camping family responded with swiftness, vigor & compassion during the kitchen fire in the Stuart’s trailer. Special thanks to Tom, Don, Matt for manning the extinguishers and getting the blaze out before the fire dept. even arrived, and to Cathy for documenting the damage for the insurance company. Well done by all. No-one was hurt and the Chris & Marlene promise be back camping. It should serve as a notice, however, to the rest of us that it is a good idea to have a commercial extinguisher in your trailer – do not rely on the ones that come in your camper – they are often not big enough. And as we just witnessed, trailers burn quickly. PLEASE update your fire extinguishers!
Thanks to Carol & George, Jeanette and Randy for helping chase down a baby fawn last Friday. We all got our exercise and the young deer is back in the woods - hopefully to reunite with its mother.
We’re Soooo Sad….
Last week Connie & Henry lost Boomer. Boomer was a regular here at Markham Meadows and favorite in the best dressed dog contest. This week Betty said good-by to Bud, her fearless companion for 12 years. We are a nation of dog lovers here at MMC, and our hearts go out to you.
Dog Etiquette
PLEASE pick up after your animals at all times. I had several complaints last weekend and I mowed over SIX this week….yucky. It’s simple, put your plastic bag in your pocket and have it with you at all times. Fines start next week….AND, please restrain your dogs from barking...there have been several violators…either stay home with them or bring them with you. It is very annoying to your neighbors to have to listen to incessant barking while they are trying to relax.
ODD JOBS – The Sky-Curt Company has put themselves out for hire. They are willing to do painting, weed pulling, wood stacking, window washing & more. They claim to be reasonably priced and are willing to negotiate! Find them on sites #33 or #38 or at 860-304-5074.
Kids & The Pond - Paddleboats and kayaks are free but everyone must wear a life jacket and adults must watch their kids ANYTIME they are near the water. They must be off bikes by dark & on their sites (or with you) by 9 p.m.
Fire Pit Etiquette - NO cans or bottles in your fire pit. No pallets or any wood with nails.
Visitors MUST sign in at the office and pay their fee BEFORE they go to your site. No exceptions.
Frogs & Turtles & Geese should never be harmed. You may only catch and release our fish.
Golf Cart Rules
Golf carts must adhere to the speed limit AND if I catch you driving drunk on your cart – I own the cart. ALSO – children (anyone under the age of 30) DO NOT drive your golf cart. Period. That means Teddy & Roberta.
